Rose City Model Flyers and The Hobby of R/C Flying

Est. 1979 (Inc.)

Most people are attracted to the sport of radio controlled model aircraft after seeing one in flight. Of course, that is the most enjoyable part of the sport to most of us. However, there is much more to it than just flying. Students and pilots can choose a variety of methods to build their own aircraft, from scratch built, to kits, or ARFs (Almost Ready to Fly) while learning useful skills such as woodworking, using small hand tools, finishing, painting etc.

Small but powerful engines are available to power the models and will present a whole new challenge for you to master. Whatever part of the sport excites you the most, there is plenty to enjoy and plenty to learn. This is the type of hobby that is recommended for teenagers by many educational professionals, as it offers a wholesome method of learning new things while having fun!

The ROSE CITY MODEL FLYERS is Welland's oldest radio controlled model airplane flying club, with members from all over the Niagara Peninsula and beyond. the club was organized in 1979 by a group of local enthusiasts for the purpose of building and flying model RC aircraft. That same year the club applied for and was granted a charter as a member of the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC). We have established an excellent flying field in Wainfleet off of Feeder Rd, ten minutes from downtown Welland. You will find us flying our aircraft there whenever the weather and time permits. So come and join us and let the flying begin!

What is Aeromodeling?
Aeromodeling has been around since man's early attempts at flight. In the past fifty years aeromodeling has come a long way from kid's toys. Today you can build model airplanes of incredible realism and fly them as expertly as a pilot sitting at the controls.

So if video games don't offer you the challenge they once did, you're ready for live action in three dimensions. Turn off your TV, grab a friend or the whole family, and come to the wild blue world of aeromodeling. It's a wonderful form of self-expression. And, as you will see, it has something for everyone.

If you love flying like we do, then stop thinking of it and start doing it! Visit us at the field and let the fun begin.

To visit us during one of our meeting nights from September to June, please go to the "Meetings & Events" page by clicking the tab in the left column.
